“Jazz at the Monastery welcomes you to this first of many educational and cultural encounters at the Monastery that build our community and show a way forward in togetherness and hope.
Jazz, an originally African- American music form that took over first America and then the world by its ability to channel suffering, hopes and aspirations. Jazz is a language of spontaneous encounters in the present, that gives the music am everlasting connection to the hearts and souls of all involved. A connection between the moment and the everlasting – that is what we invite you to at Jazz at the Monastery !
Specific to this style, you will find it contains both great individual freedom of expression, as well as the endless potential of human collaboration. Jazz bridges the self and the community, and does so in the moment – thereby creating a way to connect to audiences across continents, borders, generations and traditions. Thus like the church, jazz has functioned as a house of spirituality and humanity coming together, and overcoming challenges.
We are exited to bring this music, performed by a group of Lebanese and foreigners, all longtime collaborators, all active in the Lebanese music scene for a long time, to the Monastery !”
